The new £237m redevelopment project at Liverpool’s Alder Hey Children’s Hospital is well underway in Springfield Park, next door to the current site. The new hospital will have 270 beds, including 48 critical care beds and will be surrounded by gardens and feature play areas on every ward.
Construction so far sees over 20 Vistamatic vision panels, the triple glazed privacy system is renowned for allowing discreet and secure observation whilst maintaining the appearance of a contemporary Venetian style blind. In addition to this the panels are manufactured as sealed units to ensure they are totally free from the risk of attracting bacteria as well as being simple to install with no specialist tools needed and no ongoing maintenance or cleaning costs.
In addition to the installation of the Vistamatic vision panels, the project has also benefitted from over 500 BetweenGlassBlinds to date, offering a versatile, stylish and maintenance-free means of shading, privacy and observation. BGB’s innovative Venetian or pleated style blind sits inside a hermetically sealed double glazed argon filled unit, which protects the blind from damage, dirt and grime. Meaning the blind is hygienically excellent, never needs cleaning and is completely maintenance free.

Once the new building is ready, the existing Alder Hey will be demolished and turned into a park, replacing the land lost in Springfield Park.
The hospital, which was founded in 1914, provides care for more than 200,000 children and young people every year and is one of Europe’s biggest and busiest children’s hospitals.
The new hospital is expected to open in September 2015.
